Battling The Clock -Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are becoming increasingly popular as a means to help reverse the changes associated with aging

As we age, men and women alike, gaze in the mirror only to appear “older, tired and dissatisfied” with their reflection. Over time, muscles give-in to repetitive facial expression, revealing: crow’s feet, furrows between the brows, forehead wrinkles, lines around lips and saggy loose skin become more apparent.

Now, one visit can help boost your looks and confidence with simple procedures that can accomplish great results in 30 minutes. Patients can lose as much as ten years during a quick “lunch-time” appointment and go back to work with no pain, downtime or visible signs – other than looking younger!

The use of fillers dates back to the 1890s when doctors discovered they could give their patient a more youthful look by extracting fat from other part of patient’s skin and using it on the face

As our skin ages, the dermis gradually loses its major constituents: collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Collagen acts as the major support protein for our skin, elastin allows our skin to stay firm and resist wrinkles, and hyaluronic acid helps to trap water and add volume and shape to our skin.

A variety of dermal fillers are available. Some of the most popular include collagen based fillers, hyaluronic acid based fillers, and poly lactic acid based fillers and calcium hydroxylapatite fillers.
All types of filler materials can all help improve the youthful appearance and fullness of facial skin, but there are differences in the way each behaves and the duration of time the results of each filler will last. The results can last from three months to five years, depending on the filler being used. Location can also affect the duration of results.

Most injectable fillers are administered in just a few minutes, and any discomfort can be managed with topical or injectable anesthetics. Some minor initial discomfort is normal, but should be brief, as most patients are comfortable returning to work or other daily activities immediately.

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and generally very safe. Side effects are uncommon but can include limited allergic reactions (hypersensitivity), reactivation of an existing herpes infection, localized bruising, redness or swelling at the injection site.

An important element to achieving successful results with dermal fillers is realizing that no one filler is ideal for all areas of the face getting good results has more to do with the injection technique and the type of filler being used at that particular area.

The goal is to return the skin to its original youthful state; dermal fillers can give a more natural appearance than surgical face lifts with no downtime.
